comes alive through photographs which serve as windows to the
past. The text and captions accompanying the
pictures are interesting and informative and provide both
context and perspective. The author has also included a
number of vignettes on such topics as the I&M Canal, Stone City,
Prison Town, Early Joliet Churches, J. D. Paige, Joliet

The related themes of transportation and
industry are presented in picture and print in this volume on
Joliet history. The 275 photographs and supporting text
tell the story of Joliet's development in these two important
areas. From the Sauk Trail blazed by Native Americans to
present-day interstate highways and from 19th century stone
quarries to modern manufacturing establishments, the story of
Joliet's economic development is skillfully told and portrayed
in this book.

Featuring over 700 photographs, this volume
commemorates the centennial celebration of America's oldest
public community college. The full sweep of Joliet Junior
College's history is recount- ed here from its founding in 1901
to its present position as a leading community college.
The author has a first-hand knowledge of the college, having
served as a history professor and department chair for 30
years. The volume contains both meaty prose for the
serious scholar and fascinating photos for those interested in a
coffee table book.

The history of Will County's contribution to the Civil War is
recorded in this 600-page reprint of George H. Woodruff's 1876
classic entitled Fifteen Years Ago: Or the Patriotism of Will
County. The original volume is very rare and usually
sells for more than $250 at auction. Only 400 copies of this
affordable reprint were produced. Its contents include a
history of the home front; histories of the 100th, 20th, 39th,
64th, and 90th Regiments; histories of the McAllister and
Barnett Batteries; military prison experiences; roster and
muster rolls; and the death record of Will County soldiers.

New! This book’s 375 photos portray
Joliet’s past and also show how the city has changed. Early
archival views are paired with contemporary photos carefully shot
from the same perspective. In some cases, the two pictures reveal
dramatic change while in others the change is much more subtle.
This superb volume, which measures 12” x 12” and is printed on
quality paper, both captures the past and also preserves the
present for future generations.
